HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?
For celebration cakes, I can often work with much shorter time frames, and request that bookings are made at least two weeks in advance. However, as with wedding cakes, we recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
I require wedding cake bookings at least four weeks in advance to allow me time to work out the design and source any required specialty ingredients or decorative elements. However, it is best to inquire as soon as possible once you have confirmed your date and venue as my calendar can fill up early. The same timelines apply for other large orders (e.g. large parties, corporate events).
If you are in a state of panic and need a cake sooner than described above, feel free to get in touch and I’ll do my absolute best to accommodate your request.

CAN I PICK UP MY CAKE?
Yes. Cake pick-ups are available all seven days of the week at a time arranged by me and the customer. Cakes are packaged with care to ensure minimal movement during transport; however, unless delivery is organized, I am not responsible for any damage to your cake after the cake has left my hands.
WHAT MAKES SOME CAKES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHERS?
Three factors influence the price of a cake:
The first is the cost of the ingredients and non-edible materials (e.g. doweling, cake boards, cake boxes, etc.) required for your chosen flavors and design. Some ingredients (e.g. gold and silver leaf, fresh flowers, toppers etc) cost a premium for me to use, and this cost is incorporated into the quote.
The second is the time required to create your chosen design. Simple designs take less time, while designs incorporating intricate detailing or structure work take more time, and time is money!
The third is the size of your cake - a cake to serve 150 people will cost more than a cake to serve 20.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY CAKE?
My cakes are meant to be enjoyed at room temperature (around 70 degrees F). If your event is held during the warmer summer months, we strongly recommend that you store the cake in a cooler space (such as a refrigerator) until closer to service. Cakes should be stored in the fridge and I suggest taking it out somewhere between 1 to 2 hours prior to service.
Please note: It is never recommended to have your desserts in direct sunlight.
In the event that you have leftovers from your event, any exposed cake should be tightly covered in plastic wrap as to not let air in and dry out the cake.

MY WEDDING IS IN THE WICHITA AREA, BUT WE LIVE OUT OF TOWN. CAN YOU WORK WITH US?
Absolutely, I've found communication through email very effective and convenient for me and my clients! And if needed, we can set up a video or a phone chat. No matter where you are, my process is rooted in great communication and a gorgeous final product.
HOW DO TASTINGS WORK?
I offer a tasting box weekend every month for couple to have the opportunity to try some Stand Tall cake from the comfort of their homes. Sample boxes are offered once a month and get delivered to your address on the date selected (Saturday or Sunday morning). Head over to the TASTING BOX page of the website for more information and to reserve your spot for next month's box. Boxes may be frozen if couples live out of town but have family in town to care for the box. I do not offer in-person tastings.
CAN I HAVE A DIFFERENT FLAVOR IN EACH TIER?
Yes absolutely - I encourage it! You can pick as many flavors as you have tiers - so 2 flavors for a 2 tier cake, 3 flavors for a 3 tier cake and so on. There is no additional cost to have multiple flavors.
DO I NEED A CAKE STAND FOR MY WEDDING CAKE? ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?
Most venues these days provide a small circular table or some sort of structure to elevate and isolate your wedding cake and make it stand out at the venue. In this case, a cake stand is not necessary as the cake is already isolated. However, if you are having a dessert table and displaying the cake on a rectangular table among other desserts, I would recommend a cake stand to elevate the wedding cake from the other offerings. When choosing a cake stand, I recommend cake stands which are flat and I would avoid stands with a lip on the top edge(if not sized correctly, this can cause a uneven base for the cake). Your wedding cake will be sitting on a cake board which is 2" larger in diameter than your bottom tier. For example, if you are having a 6"-8"-10" three-tired wedding cake, it will be sitting on a 12" cake board so I recommend a cake stand which is 12" in diameter or wider.
SHOULD I KEEP THE TOP TIER OF MY WEDDING CAKE?
Like many other classic wedding traditions, it is entirely your choice whether or not you keep the top tier from your cake. The tradition is to keep the top tier and freeze until your first wedding anniversary or the christening of your first child. If you do wish to keep this tier, an extra box will be provided with instructions on how best to preserve the cake. Keep in mind, if you keep the top tier, you will need to make up for the servings lost. Please also make sure you let your venue know so that they don't accidentally cut it up and serve it!
HOW MANY SERVINGS OF CAKE DO I NEED FOR MY WEDDING GUEST LIST OF ___?
I can help you with that once you provide information on the number of guests you need to serve and the role the cake will play in your event. The question of number of servings is a challenging one and in my experience it's all about timing and when things are being served. To me, the closer you serve dessert right after dinner the better. I've been to some weddings where they wait 1-2 hours after dinner to cut the cake and by then guests are in the drinking mood and less dessert will get eaten. I would recommend cutting the cake right after or before dinner, that way the cake can be served when guests are in the eating mood.
With that in mind, I recommend having enough dessert servings to feed 70%-80% of your guestlist. As you can expect some guests who don't like cake or who will share a serving with another guest. Another factor to consider is whether you wish to keep the top tier for your anniversary. If so, the top tier will not be included in the calculation of serving sizes for your event.

DO YOU OFFER FRESH FLOWERS ON WEDDING CAKES?
In order to achieve consistency throughout your event, I highly recommend ordering additional florals from your florist providing florals for the event. I will then clean, process, wrap and decorate your custom cake on site with the florals provided. If you are not having florals provided, I would be happy to provide florals at an additional cost. Costs on florals vary based on intricacy of design and type of florals.
WEDDING TOPPERS? WHERE CAN I GET THEM? WHAT SIZE?
The toppers I offer are made of poster board paper and are better used for celebration cakes. If you are interested in having a wedding topper, I would recommend looking on Etsy. There you can find a bunch of different vendors who make beautiful toppers out of wood or plastic. However, before you order, I would recommend touching base with Stand Tall to ensure the size of the topper matching the size of the cake you are leaning towards. I can provide cake sketches to show you how the topper will look on any of the sizes Stand Tall offers before you order.
CAN YOU CATER FOR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
Yes – I have a large range of Gluten Free flavors – these are available upon request, just ask me for details. Please note that because I bake all types of cakes, using gluten and nuts, I cannot 100% guarantee that there aren’t traces of these elements within my kitchen. I am super careful when it comes to dietary requirements but if you have an allergy I must advise you to use your discretion.
